UNPRECEDENTED COURSE ON THE CO-OFFICIALIZATION OF THE POLISH LANGUAGE IN BRAZIL!

From September 19 to 21, 2025, the first edition of the course “Co-officialization of the Polish Language in Brazil – The Implementation of Brazilian Legislation” was held in Curitiba.
The goal of the course was to train participants to promote and implement the linguistic rights of the Polish diaspora, focusing on co-officialization initiatives in municipalities with a strong Polish-Brazilian community presence.
Participants came from various municipalities in the southern states of Brazil, including: Campina Grande do Sul/PR, Cruz Machado/PR, Curitiba/PR, Erechim/RS, Irati/PR, Joinville/SC, Mallet/PR, Nova Prata/RS, Pinhais/PR, Santo Antônio do Palma/RS, São Mateus do Sul/PR, Treze Tílias/SC, União da Vitória/PR, and Virmond/PR.
The training was organized by the Association of Alumni of the Polish Language and Literature Program at UFPR and the Polish Language and Literature Program at the Federal University of Paraná, in partnership with the Scientific Society of the Catholic University of Lublin, with funding from the Senate of Poland. The event was supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Curitiba, the Polish-Brazilian Society Marshal Piłsudski, and the Wisła Folkloric Group.Over three days of intense activities, participants discussed:
● Language policies and Brazilian legislation
● Cultural identity and intergenerational transmission
● History of Polish immigration to Brazil
● The role of the Polish language as a living heritage
● The Polish language spoken in Brazil
The event’s opening was attended by Mr. Wojciech Baczyński, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Curitiba. The closing ceremony was honored by Mr. Lourival Araújo Filho, Brazil’s representative on the Polish Council of the Senate of Poland.
